Description
Water glass , also known as sodium silicate , Kiesol , Glass varnish , sodium metasilicate or soda water glass , is the versatile solution for construction and industrial applications. This high-quality silicate agent makes mortar and concrete more waterproof and stronger, helps against rising damp and impregnates surfaces permanently. Thanks to its high concentration, it reacts directly with free calcium in cement-based materials. This creates a dense CSH network that minimizes moisture absorption and extends the service life.

Why choose this Kiesol / Glass Varnish solution?
🧱 Waterproofing additive – fills capillary pores and reduces water absorption in mortar and concrete.
⏱️ Faster early strength – accelerates the first hydration phase, ideal for precast elements.
🛠️ Versatile in use – can be used as an injection fluid against rising damp and as a surface impregnation.
Applications
- Mortar & Concrete – Add 2–5% Kiesol or Glass Varnish to cement weight via the mixing water. This increases density and reduces formwork release time.
- Injection against damp – Dilute 1:1 with demineralised water. Drill Ø12 mm holes at 10–12 cm centre to centre; the solution forms an insoluble silicate gel in the wall.
- Surface impregnation – Apply a 5–10% solution wet-on-wet with a roller or spray. Allow to dry for at least 8 hours before further finishing.
📏 Yield: Depending on the application, 1 litre covers an average of 5–10 m² when impregnating.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – FAQ
Is Glass Varnish the same as Kiesol or sodium silicate?
Yes, Glass Varnish, Kiesol and Sodium Silicate are different names for the same sodium metasilicate product, also called water glass or soda water glass.
How do I add Glass Varnish to mortar?
First dissolve the desired amount in the mixing water. Then add the dry components. Process the mix within ± 60 minutes.
Can this product make concrete water-repellent?
Addition to the concrete mix reduces capillary absorption. For existing floors, wet-on-wet impregnation or injection works best.
Is Glass Varnish Flammable?
No, this silicate is water-based and non-flammable.
Is it safe for reinforcement?
Yes, steel and stainless steel are not affected. Avoid direct contact with zinc or tin.
