What is Sodium Hydroxide?
Sodium hydroxide, also known as lye, caustic soda and drain unblocker, is a white, odorless solid. The fabric is very hydrophilic and absorbs moisture from the air. When dissolved in water or neutralized with an acid, it gives off a tremendous amount of heat. This heat can be enough to ignite combustible materials. Sodium hydroxide is highly corrosive and should be handled with extreme caution. Safety equipment is mandatory and absolutely must not be neglected!
Sodium hydroxide is commonly used in the production of soap, rayon, paper, dyes and petroleum products. It is also used in cotton processing, laundering and bleaching, metal cleaning and processing, oxide coating, electroplating and electrolytic extraction. Because of the danger of that substance, we ask our customers to specify the intentions of use for the product.

- How should sodium hydroxide be stored?
- The substance should be stored in a well-ventilated area, away from moisture and water sources, and in a tightly closed container to avoid contact with the substance. Also keep out of the reach of children.
- Can sodium hydroxide be mixed with other cleaning products?
- Mixing it with other cleaning products, especially those containing acids, can cause dangerous chemical reactions. Avoid mixing chemicals unless specifically stated to be safe.
Where can I buy sodium hydroxide?
At DutchChems we offer sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) in bottles of 500 grams. The reason we chose bottles instead of buckets is for safety reasons. It is much easier to dose from a bottle than from a bucket. This reduces the chance that the substance will end up on the skin and cause damage. We offer a discount when multiple bottles are ordered.
We also offer this fabric in large packaging such as bags and big bags. A quote can be requested for this via our contact form .
