Description
What is Boiled Linseed Oil?
Boiled linseed oil is a form of linseed oil extracted from the seeds of the flax plant. It is a natural product with a pale yellow color that is often used in paints, varnishes, and as a wood finish.
The “boiling” treatment of this linseed oil doesn’t actually mean the oil is boiled. It actually refers to the heating process in which siccatives (drying agents) are added to accelerate the oil’s oxidation and polymerization. This process significantly improves the product’s drying time compared to raw linseed oil.
For this reason, boiled linseed oil is a popular finish for woodwork, both indoors and outdoors. You can use it on all kinds of wooden objects, such as ladders, fences, beams, doors, and cabinets.
This product provides a durable, gloss finish that is moisture resistant and helps protect the wood from the elements such as moisture and UV.

Instructions for use
Preparation:
- Make sure the surface to be treated is clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, and old paint. For new wood, lightly sand it for better adhesion.
- Work in a well-ventilated area and wear protective gloves if necessary.
Apply:
- Stir the boiled linseed oil well before starting to ensure a uniform consistency.
- Apply a thin layer with a clean, dry brush or cloth. For even coverage, work in the direction of the wood grain.
- Allow the oil to dry for at least 24 hours ; this may take longer depending on the ambient temperature and humidity.
- After the first coat, lightly sand with fine sandpaper for a smooth finish. Remove all sanding dust before applying the next coat.
- For extra protection and depth of finish, apply several thin coats , allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next. Two to three coats are usually sufficient.
Aftercare and Maintenance:
- Keep treated surfaces clean by wiping them with a slightly damp cloth.
- Annual maintenance may be necessary for surfaces exposed to severe weather conditions or wear and tear, by applying a new coat of linseed oil.
