What is Thinner?
Thinner is an oil-based solvent used to thin paint, varnish, lacquer, and other finishes. It does this by lowering the viscosity of the finishing agent, making it easier to apply. You can also remove paint splashes, glue residue and other types of dirt with it. For example, it is used as a cleaner and degreaser for painting tools and for cleaning painting surfaces.
Instructions
Wear protective gloves, safety glasses, and if possible a mask to avoid inhalation of vapors. In addition, ensure a well-ventilated work area to minimize exposure to harmful fumes. Do not use thinner on plastic or synthetic surfaces as they may melt or become damaged. Also be careful when using thinner near open flames or heat sources due to its high flammability. For thinning paint
- Add the thinner to the paint gradually, stirring constantly, until the desired consistency is achieved. Start with a small amount and add more if necessary.
- Test the thinned paint on a small, inconspicuous surface to assess the quality of the finish.
Removing paint and ink stains
- Apply a small amount of thinner to a clean cloth.
- Gently dab the stain with the cloth until the paint or ink begins to dissolve.
- Wipe the area clean and repeat if necessary.
